OpenWeeknight is built on trust. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, when it may be shared, how moderation and safety review may work, how long information may be kept, and the choices available to you.
This policy applies when you create an account, use OpenWeeknight, submit feedback, contact us, or otherwise interact with the service.
At a glance
We collect information needed to provide accounts, conversations, rooms, safety features, and support.
We do not sell your personal information.
Private rooms and Direct Messages use access controls, but they are not end-to-end encrypted.
OpenWeeknight does not intentionally collect precise GPS or device-location data.
You may ask to access, correct, or delete personal information, subject to legal, safety, and operational limits.
Ordinary account deletion is generally completed within 90 days, although some records may need to be kept longer.
Information we collect
The information we collect depends on how you use OpenWeeknight.
Account information
This may include your email address, username, authentication provider, account status, role, login details, session information, and account-security information.
Profile information
This may include your display name, profile photo, country, general location, age range, gender, interests, purpose, and conversation starter.
Some profile fields are optional. Please do not provide information that you are not comfortable storing or showing to other members.
Settings and preferences
We may collect your privacy, notification, timezone, time format, accessibility, and personalisation settings.
Room and membership information
This may include rooms you create, own, moderate, join, leave, request to join, are invited to, follow, or interact with.
It may also include room names, descriptions, categories, access settings, room rules, notices, polls, invitations, join requests, membership records, bans, and moderation status.
Messages and conversation content
We may store messages and related content in public rooms, private rooms, and Direct Messages.
This may include replies, mentions, reactions, photos, edits, deletion status, earlier versions, timestamps, reports, and other supported attachments.
Activity information
This may include presence, typing status, last-active information, unread and last-read state, pinned or recent conversations, room activity, and interaction patterns.
Safety and moderation information
This may include reports, blocks, warnings, suspensions, moderation cases, evidence, case notes, assignments, decisions, access logs, evidence holds, and records of authorised administrative review.
Support and feedback
We collect information you provide when contacting us, submitting Help & Feedback, responding to the review team, or asking to exercise a privacy or account right.
Technical information
This may include your IP address, browser, device type, session, cookies, security logs, diagnostic information, performance information, and basic usage data.
OpenWeeknight does not intentionally collect precise GPS or device-location information.
You may choose to provide a country or general location as part of your profile. An IP address may also provide an approximate indication of location, but this is not precise GPS location.
How we use information
We may use personal information to:
- Create, authenticate, secure, and manage your account
- Display your profile and activity according to your settings and the needs of the service
- Provide public rooms, private rooms, realtime chat, Direct Messages, replies, reactions, mentions, invitations, join requests, polls, notifications, and conversation history
- Remember your settings, unread state, conversation state, and preferences
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, test, analyse, and improve OpenWeeknight
- Prevent spam, scams, fraud, abuse, block evasion, unauthorised access, and security incidents

- Enforce our Terms of Use and Community Standards
- Respond to support, privacy, account, and legal requests
- Protect OpenWeeknight, our members, and other people from harm
- Comply with applicable law
We may use automated rules or systems to identify possible spam, abuse, scams, threats, or other safety concerns for human review.
An automated indicator does not necessarily lead to enforcement by itself.
Profiles and visibility
Some profile information may be visible to other members. Visibility depends on what you provide, your available privacy settings, room membership, and the needs of the service.
Profile information that may be visible can include your display name, username, profile photo, country, general location, age range, gender, interests, purpose, conversation starter, activity status, current room, joined date, and rooms you have created.
You can review and change available profile, privacy, notification, and personalisation settings from Settings.
Some information may remain visible or available where needed for account integrity, safety, room ownership, moderation, or operation of the service.
Messages, conversations, and administrative review
OpenWeeknight stores messages and conversation activity so the service can deliver conversations, preserve history, maintain unread state, operate Direct Messages, resolve technical problems, and investigate reports or safety concerns.
Public-room content may be visible to members and may be opened through discovery or shared links, subject to applicable access requirements.
Private rooms and Direct Messages are protected by access controls, but they are not end-to-end encrypted.
Authorised members of the OpenWeeknight review team and trusted service providers may access relevant content when reasonably necessary for service operation, support, safety, security, moderation, enforcement, fraud prevention, dispute handling, or legal compliance.
Room conversations may be searched or reviewed for moderation, safety, platform integrity, support, or legal purposes.
Human review of Direct Messages is generally limited to content connected to a report, safety concern, moderation case, security investigation, support matter, or legal obligation.
A report may initially include the reported message and nearby context. Reviewers may load additional relevant context and attach selected messages to a moderation case as evidence.
Other participants may copy, screenshot, or share content they can see. Avoid sharing information that is highly sensitive or that you would not want stored online.
Edits, deletions, and moderation records
When a message is edited, OpenWeeknight may keep earlier versions for integrity, abuse prevention, dispute resolution, and authorised moderation review.
When a message is deleted, other members may see a deletion notice while underlying records may be retained for a limited period or longer where reasonably required.
Moderation records may include reports, reasons, surrounding context, case assignments, notes, decisions, access logs, and attached evidence.
Internal moderation notes are not normally shared with members, unless required by law or appropriate for a particular communication.
Evidence preservation
When a message or related record is attached to a moderation case, authorised personnel may place it under an evidence hold.
An active hold prevents attached evidence from being permanently deleted while it is reasonably needed for an investigation, safety, security, enforcement, fraud prevention, disputes, or legal compliance.
Viewing additional conversation context does not automatically place every displayed message under a hold. Only reported messages and other records formally attached to a case are preserved under that case hold.
Photos and file storage
OpenWeeknight may store photos and other files that you upload or share through the service.
This may include profile photos, room images, poll images, message photos, feedback attachments, and future supported file types.
Some files may be stored in private storage and displayed only to people who are allowed to access the related room, conversation, account, or moderation case.
Files may also be reviewed when connected to a report, safety concern, support request, moderation case, security investigation, or legal obligation.
Removing a photo from normal display does not always result in immediate permanent deletion. A copy may remain temporarily in backups, moderation records, evidence holds, or security logs.
Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably needed to provide the service, fulfil the purposes described in this policy, maintain security, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent fraud or abuse, and meet legal or business requirements.
Retention periods may differ depending on the type of information and why it is being kept.
When information is no longer reasonably needed, we may delete it, anonymise it, or remove the means by which it can be linked to you.
Some records may be kept longer for safety, fraud prevention, security, disputes, enforcement, backups, evidence holds, or legal obligations.
Evidence attached to a moderation case may remain until the hold is released and the information is no longer reasonably needed for a business, safety, or legal purpose.
Account deletion
You may request deletion through any account-deletion controls made available in Settings or by contacting OpenWeeknight.
We aim to complete ordinary account deletion within 90 days after receiving and verifying a valid request.
Some information may be deleted or anonymised earlier. Other records may be kept longer where reasonably needed for safety, fraud prevention, security, moderation evidence, disputes, enforcement, backups, or legal obligations.
Deleting your account may remove or anonymise profile information and may change how earlier messages appear.
Some content or records may remain where needed to preserve conversation integrity, protect other members, investigate abuse, maintain moderation evidence, comply with law, or maintain backups.
Your choices and rights
Depending on applicable law and available features, you may:
- Access and update profile and account information
- Change available privacy, notification, accessibility, and personalisation settings
- Ask for access to personal information we hold about you
- Ask how certain personal information has been used or shared
- Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
- Request account deletion
Withdrawing consent may affect our ability to provide some or all of the service.
We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
Some requests may be limited or refused where permitted by law, including where disclosure would reveal another person's information, compromise safety or an investigation, or conflict with legal obligations.
You can contact OpenWeeknight first if you have a concern about how your personal information has been handled. You may also have the right to contact the relevant data-protection authority in your jurisdiction.
Security and data breaches
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organisational safeguards intended to protect personal information against unauthorised access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, loss, or disposal.
Administrative permissions are role-based, and sensitive moderation access may be recorded in access logs.
No online service can guarantee complete security. Keep your password, login links, verification codes, and account recovery information secure.
Contact us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.
If a personal-data breach occurs, we will assess it and notify affected individuals or authorities when required by applicable law.
Age requirement
OpenWeeknight is intended for people aged 16 and over.
We do not knowingly allow children under 16 to create accounts. Contact us if you believe a person under 16 is using the service.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as OpenWeeknight, our practices, or legal requirements change.
When we make changes, we will update the version or “Last updated” date on this page.
We may provide additional notice through the service, by email, or through another reasonable method when a change is significant.
